Here’s another amazing article we wrote for the Triad Weddings Magazine:
What’s YOUR favorite color?
No seriously, what color makes your heart happy and brings a smile to your face?
Why are you not using those favorite colors in your wedding décor and inspiring your vision? Weddings should be happy and cheerful, light and airy and all about your personalities. There are so many ways you can bring bright fun and playful colors into your special day.
When we are considering a design for a wedding we look at the venue and what it already has to offer and then we twist our couple’s personality into the plan. Usually we try to mix up the tables with a rounds, squares, larger options for more family to sit together yet a few smaller table options for those intimate conversations. With different tables you can also have fun with your linens by using different textures and colors. This is an easy way to add pops of color to make your guests’ eyes move across the room as they enter and look around.
Don’t sleep on your dishes, place settings and glassware. This is definitely a fun aspect to bring color into your design. While the basic white china
and clear glasses are cheap and cheerful we love BOLD pops of fun dishes, chargers and glassware. Here is where you also can introduce your food options and displays as an extension to your design and personality. Most people “eat with their eyes” so showcase your amazing catering, bar and desserts as if they were works of art. It’s all about the attention to detail.
One of the easiest places to add color is in your floral arrangements and ceremony décor. Even if all of your linens are muted and laying a foundation; your flowers can be the aspect that breathes life into you design. Talk with your florist about how some flowers, centerpieces and even bouquets photograph as “dark holes.” They will guide you in how to make your personalities shine and pop throughout your design.
However, if you’re spending all of this money on these amazing arrangements bring in a lighting specialist. They will add pin spots on centerpieces, your cake or dessert display, your sweetheart table and any other magical areas that need to shine bright on your wedding day. You can also speak with a lighting specialist or your entertainment about up lighting around your venue to add pops of color. Even a simple warm amber changes the entire mood and tone of a venue. Plus makes everyone have this extra special little glow about them.
One area we are seeing a shift in adding bright and cheerful colors to wedding is shifting away from the traditional “white or ivory” wedding dress and black tux. More and more couples are wearing their favorite colors and/or what colors they look best in. Maybe you’re still considering a very light and airy look for the décor; consider fun bright socks for those to wearing suits/pants. We are seeing more custom suits and tuxedos and they aren’t just for the guys anymore. Brides and wedding party members are rocking jump suits, blazers and just having more fun with their attire.
There are so many other areas you can bring pops of your personality and bright fun colors into your design. Invitations set the tone of your event. While programs and signs offer great communication to let you guests know what to expect when and where. Don’t forget escort cards, menu cards, bar signs and other little party favors too. Work with a professional stationary specialist to create a full set to use throughout your wedding from the invites to the thank you leaving nothing untouched in between.
So when you start planning your big day; think about what really gets you excited and makes you happy. Really think about what you want your photos and memories to be in 20 plus years. What’s popular today may not be in several decades but will be is you and who you two are. So have fun with your design because the best is yet to come.
